Scottish energy developer, Red Rock Power Limited, has today announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive Officer, Guy Madgwick, as it looks forward to a momentous year ahead following the recent acquisition of 50MW Afton Wind Farm in East Ayrshire for an undisclosed amount.
The new CEO will be responsible for steering the developer’s next phase of growth following a successful 2018 which saw it expand the Edinburgh based team by 33 per cent. In addition to the Afton acquisition which marks the company’s first onshore wind development, Red Rock Power’s proposed offshore wind farm project, Inch Cape, continues to take strides forward as it nears CFD eligibility early next year. It also owns a 25 per cent stake in the Beatrice wind farm which celebrated its first generation in July and is one of the largest ever private investments in Scottish infrastructure.
Guy has over 30 years of experience working within the European energy industry. He spent his early career as a geologist within the oil and gas industry before moving into the power sector, and has championed renewables and sustainability for the last fifteen years in senior leadership roles with major utilities and private companies alike. He also brings strong business acumen, having a Masters in Business Administration from Warwick University and recently established his own renewables consultancy business, Freewheel Consulting Ltd.
Guy said: “Red Rock Power is a key player in the Scottish, UK and European renewables industry and I look forward to leading the team to further this ambition. Developments in the last few months are the culmination of several years of hard work by a group of dedicated and enthusiastic experts who I look forward to working with.
“Having been involved in renewable energy since 2005, I have seen the vast potential realised both onshore and off our coasts with technology and innovation exceeding all expectations. The investment and ambition of Red Rock Power Limited matches the vision of a low carbon economy. I look forward to a successful future with Red Rock Power to establish the business in the UK and beyond”.
Red Rock Power Limited is the Edinburgh-based subsidiary and European headquarters of SDIC Power, a power generation company headquartered in Beijing, China. The developer has strong ambitions to grow its portfolio through new merger and acquisition and new offshore leasing round opportunities.
Guy added: “While we are busy with our work on Inch Cape, Afton, and Beatrice, we remain interested in growing our portfolio further. Scotland and the UK has a wealth of natural resources and we are eager to play a key role in creating affordable clean energy as we all strive towards low carbon electricity generation.”
